Love Field Potteries
Jugs

Jugs are what I would describe as semi-rare when compared to the straight wall crocks and churns in today's market. I have friends who have for years been collecting pottery and stoneware and most have never seen a Love Field jug. The gods must have smiled on me for in a little over a month I had purchased four and located 6. I am aware of one other collector (Stevie Zahn) who has 5 (two-2gal., one-3gal, two-5 Gal) jugs.
UPDATE: I have been running across a few more jugs recently so the designation of rare may need to be changed to something more like un-common
The two tone glaze pattern of an Albany top and Bristol bottom make these shoulder jugs a unique item in the Love Field product line. In fact jugs are the only utilitarian item in their inventory that utilized an Albany slip on either there interior or exterior. Other items including milk/watr pitchers were glazed in variouse colors. A water/milk pitcher with a traditional blue glaze can be seen on the Unusual Items page.
As you can see from the picture sizes range from 5gal down to a 1.5 gallon. As of yet I have not acquired a four gallon nor a one gallon but I have a feeling they did produce them. The 1.5 gallon is not marked with a size. The 5, 3, 2 and 1.5 gallon have the Bi-Plane stamp while my other two 2 gallon jugs have the Mono-Plane stamp. Of the jugs the 2 and 5 gallon are the most common sizes. In that order.

One often thinks of these items as 'Whiskey Jugs" but if that was all they were used for liver disease would have been the number one killer in America. Mr. Green recalls being sent to the local store with his jug to retrieve kerosene for the family cook stove. Many other liquids were bought and stored in the "Whiskey Jug."
Hand Turned Jugs
Here is an interesting jug. It is an unusual jug in that it is :
1. Hand-turned not molded
2. Is of the beehive rather than shoulder style and
3. It is all Bristol glazed rather than the normal two-tone style as shown above.
This is a 5 gallon jug with they Bi-plane stamp
