Southern Potteries was located in Dallas, Texas only a few scant blocks from the Love Field Potteries. According to James Green Southern was located on Denton Road between Love Field Drive and Shore Crest. Coincidence? No! According to one family story, George McLendon was forced out of Love Field Potteries and thus decided to open another firm. The firm he was to become a major shareholder in was Southern Potteries. |

Southern Potteries was incorporated on the 18th day of May 1926. The charter states that the purpose of the corporation was to "transact the business of manufacturing earthenware, crockery, pottery, stoneware, porcelain, glassware, and all other similar or kindred products, and to purchase and sell goods, wares and merchandise used for such business." As of yet there is not any proof that Southern Potteries ever engaged in the porcelain or glass business. Thus far all known examples of Southern's production are earthenware, pottery, crockery or stoneware in nature.
Southern Potteries initial stock value was listed as $25,000. The Subscribers were listed as:

Southern Potteries is another Dallas area Pottery that used more than one Company Logo to stamp their products. As can be seen from the above photos one logo contained the Company name within the diamond while the other logo had the name placed on the outside of the diamond.

The jug below is almost identical to Love Field Potteries jugs. I found this wonderful piece in Eastland Texas. It seems that Southern Pottery had a substantial amount of its sales in West Texas. At least that is where I have found the majority of my Southern Potteries items. Love Field is more often found in Central and East Texas. In addition to the items shown I have seen a 10 gallon straight wall crocks made by Southern. Unfortunately the dealers thought a lot more of it than I did thus sadly to say they are not in my collection

One should be careful or aware that another company also used the Diamond "Brand " Logo
Pittsburg Potteries also used the Diamond Logo.
