This is a 1 gallon chicken feeder. These feeders were quite labor intensive to make -- crafted on the potters wheel with Elmendorf clay in two parts, one part much like a one gallon jug but stopping just short of the neck, then a lid type piece with a center knob like portion was crafted also on the wheel & the two pieces joined while still wet and finished smoothly together (you can feel the join only slightly, just above the shoulder portion.) It is glazed with Meyer's famous Leon slip, it has a wonderful somewhat shiny soft greenish/umber/yellow toned surface that is semi opaque with light creamy orange peel like spots & beautiful random drips. This feeder has an unusual multi line hand tooled band that encircles the center portion. The feeder slot is cut into the clay before the jug dries and pushed in & reformed slightly to allow for the proper dispensing of feed as well as a making a nice slope entry for filling the feed into the feeder while rocking it back by the top knob allowing it to fill entirely and dispense the feed as needed. You can actually see the finger impressions where it was pushed in by hand & some slight hand work modifications show through the semi transparent glaze.
This One Quart Jug is only 6 1/2" tall and 4 1/4" diameter across the base. Among the many different size jugs that were made by Meyer Pottery the small one quart size is considered to be one of the most difficult to find for a Meyer collection.
This little Bowl has flat sides that measure 2 1/2" tall and it is 6" in diameter at the base.
This big piece measures 4 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" in Diameter, which is why I am calling it a "mug" and not a coffee cup.
